A dipslide is a ready-to-use plastic paddle coated with microbiological media. It allows routine testing of liquids and surfaces without preparing agar plates for every check.

How a dipslide works

The media is exposed to the sample, returned to its sterile container and incubated. Microorganisms capable of growing on the selected media form visible colonies. The developed slide is then compared with the supplied chart or interpretation guide.

Liquid sampling procedure

  1. Mix or collect a representative sample.
  2. Remove the slide without touching the media.
  3. Immerse both media surfaces as instructed.
  4. Allow excess liquid to drain.
  5. Return the slide to the container and incubate.

Surface sampling procedure

For suitable flat surfaces, gently press each media side against the selected area according to the product instructions. Sample the same area and pressure consistently when comparing trends.

Incubation and interpretation

Incubation time and temperature depend on the specific product and target organisms. Follow the supplied instructions. Compare the developed growth with the reference chart and record the result, sampling point and operating condition.

  • Touching the prepared media
  • Using inconsistent sampling points
  • Incubating at the wrong temperature
  • Reading the slide too early or too late
  • Failing to record treatment or cleaning changes
